Job Overview:
- A restaurant manager oversees all aspects of a restaurant’s daily operations, from managing staff and ensuring food quality to optimizing financial performance and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate restaurant staff, including servers, cooks, and support staff.
- Schedule shifts, assign tasks, and manage labor costs.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback and coaching to staff members.
Customer Service:
- Ensure that guests have a positive dining experience by maintaining high service standards.
- Address customer complaints and resolve issues promptly.
- Foster a welcoming and friendly atmosphere in the restaurant.
Food Quality and Safety:
- Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion sizes.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Oversee kitchen operations to maintain consistency and quality in food preparation.
Inventory and Supplies:
- Manage inventory of food, beverages, and restaurant supplies.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder supplies as needed.
- Implement cost-control measures to optimize expenses.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the restaurant’s budget, including revenue and expense forecasting.
- Monitor financial performance and take corrective actions to achieve profit goals.
- Control food and labor costs to maintain profitability.
Menu Development and Pricing:
- Collaborate with chefs to create and update the restaurant’s menu.
- Set menu prices based on food costs and market trends.
- Adjust menu offerings as needed to cater to customer preferences.
Marketing and Promotion:
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to attract customers and increase sales.
- Organize special promotions, events, and advertising campaigns.
- Establish relationships with local businesses and the community to drive business.
Compliance and Licensing:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including food safety and alcohol licensing.
- Maintain records and documentation related to permits and inspections.
Reports and Analysis:
- Prepare regular reports on the restaurant’s performance, including sales, expenses, and customer feedback.
- Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Previous experience in restaurant management or the foodservice industry.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Knowledge of restaurant management software and financial systems.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
